Attendee Perspectives

“It was a weekend filled with learning new information about the science of 8p disorders and the experiments taking place, making connections with families, and fostering hope for all parties involved.”

“At the conference you will make & deepen lifelong friendships & supports, you will learn about the amazing research happening – both for future generations and for our kiddos, you’ll get an opportunity to be a part of that research, all while in person in one place together. There’s nothing else like it.”

“I am so happy I chose to attend my first conference. Beyond the important information you learn about your child, you gain connection ls with families who understand your experience without much explanation. You also get the opportunity to see the big picture, the reason why this organization does all of this work…the kids. These 8p heros instantly steal your heart and I can’t imagine not going year after year now!”

“Amazingly comprehensive. Not only is there the opportunity to meet other families, the opportunity to learn about on-going research, common findings among 8p heroes, and ability to meet with dedicated specialists make this a truly enriching and worthwhile experience.”

“I feel like this conference is a must. I feel so fortunate to have learned about it right after our diagnosis. It gave us the information we wanted, the support and love that we so desperately needed, and helped guide us on our next steps in this journey.”

Registration

Registration includes most meals and an evening out at Top Golf.

Why attend the conference?

Sessions will be held on the latest research, treatment and therapies, with views from clinicians, providers and parents. We also hope to foster a sense of camaraderie and understanding. Many families feel that this is the one time when they don’t have to explain their child and have a chance to meet other parents in similar situations. There will be on-site opportunities to participate in research and meeting 8p clinicians.

The Project 8p Foundation (Project 8p) was created in 2018 to:

  • Accelerate future treatments, not only for 8p, but potentially for other chromosome-wide diseases as well.
  • Lead with knowledge from patients. Currently, there is no cure for 8p disorders, nor is there a standard course of treatment.

The Project 8p Foundation (Project 8p) was created in 2018 to:

  • Raise transformative funding for pioneering scientific research into treatments for a complex, rare disease involving 250+ affected genes on the short arm of the 8 th chromosome (8p). Rearrangements of these genes causes significant abnormalities to the entire neurological system, thus all organs and functions of the body– with variance in cognitive functions, gross motor skills, social development and other challenges during infancy, and throughout life;
  • Empower a unified community of 8p patients and their families so they can have meaningful lives today; and
  • Accelerate future treatments, not only for 8p, but potentially for other chromosome-wide diseases as well.
